It’s interesting stuff, vital to local democracy and can take just a few hours a month.

Meantime…have a look at this video for a general idea of what CCs do:

More specifically, who are we?

Set up in 2015, Colinton Community Council (ColCC) is a statutory body, run by local residents, which aims to represent Colinton’s views to the City Council (CEC), Scottish Government (SG)and any other relevant body.

We are the first port of call when people want to consult on local views; and we also act as an information hub, passing on information about legislation, consultations planning, grants -but also about things like traffic , roadworks, proposed developments and local events.

We advise local groups and individuals who seek our help, regardless of any views ColCC may hold.

We have a special relationship with the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC), and our City Councillors are valued (though non voting) members of our Community Council.)

The area we cover can be seen on this MAP The map is in Adobe PDF format. If you don't have it get adobe reader

We operate under a Constitution and the Scheme for Community Councils

What does ColCC do?

Lots of things! Firstly, we meet monthly in public so people can hear what we are up to and can ask questions/raise issues. Come to our Zoom meetings, on the second Tuesday of the month, at 7.30pm. Register by 12 o'clock on the Monday before with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Over 2020/21 we have…

  • surveyed/consulted locally on key issues – eg Spaces for People/Lanark Road; Campbell Park Paths; possible West Mill Road development- and shared the results with CEC/the community. Have your say- become a subscriber to ColCC and get all our surveys/updates at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • lobbied to keep Colinton’s toilets open.
  • funded a new notice board on the Pharmacy wall, because not everyone is online.
  • lobbied on local issues eg Dell Bridges, lighting in Spylaw Park; traffic conditions on Bridge Road, all of which are live issues with improvements scheduled in 2022.
  • helped award grants locally via the Community Grants Funding Panel;
  • published monthly in the C&B News;
  • represented the community on the Army’s Working Group.

To keep people informed, we run a website, www.colintoncc.org.uk; a Face Book page @colintoncc ; a Twitter account, @colintoncc; and a village Noticeboard.

What would we like to do?

  • We want to increase the diversity on ColCC – we need more people of all ages and backgrounds
  • We want to link more actively with local schools, parent councils and youth groups
  • We want to set up a local Snow and Ice Response team available to grit pavements, clear drives at short notice
  • We want to build a “guns for hire” list of local experts to advise on specific issues eg legal, financial, funding, publicity, environment, development, transport etc. If you are interested, please email us!
