Addressing Violence
The latest available crime statistics show a reduction in violent crime in Edinburgh (recorded crime from April –December 2022).
- Serious violent crime reduced, compared to the same period in the previous year(serious violent crime includes domestic abuse).
- There were 15 serious violent crimes per 10,000 population across the whole of Edinburgh.
- Approx. 60% of these crimes were solved -meaning the perpetrator was charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
- Minor assaults also reduced; down by 4.5% compared to the previous year. This figure is also down by over 7% compared to the 5 year average.
20% of all Edinburgh violent crime occurred in the South West of Edinburgh.
